The ever important “To Do” list

I love making lists! Probably because I love to cross things off lists. It makes me feel productive and I LOVE feeling productive.

Lists are great because they help us stay focused, prioritize our day and be efficient with our time. I for one can always use a little help with those things.

Making a list of short term and long term goals helps us stay present in the moment while setting an intention for the future.

Having a list when you go to the grocery store will help you stick to a clean diet and healthy lifestyle while keeping your total at the check out within your budget. If it’s not on the list; don’t buy it. However, this will only work if you keep the junky stuff off the list and stick to the real, nutritious stuff.

I want to share a funny story of just how true this can be.

The other day I needed a few things at the market. I made a list, packed up the baby and headed out.

When I got to the store I realized I had left the list on the kitchen counter! I wandered around for a minute to see if I could remember all that was on it. The first two things came pretty easy, face moisturizer for hubs and dishwasher detergent, but what the heck were the other two things??

I started to walk up and down the aisles grabbing a few things that jumped out at me. You know what those things were…popcorn, chips and cookies!! What the heck was I thinking? (other than it must be time for lunch and I am HUNGRY). Now sure, the popcorn was organic and GMO free, the cookies were organic vegan, the chips were organic blue corn tortilla but that does not matter in the slightest. What matters is that these things were definitely NOT on my list.

I rarely buy packaged snack food because no matter how “healthy” they claim to be they will almost always have added junk I don’t want to put in my body. Things like canola oil, gluten, sugar etc..  I even have popcorn kernels at home and love making stove top popcorn when I feel snacky.

When I got home I checked my list and had quite a laugh when the three things I totally forgot to get were bananas, avocados and yams!

Yup.. chalk that one up to a big flashing reminder to bring my list wherever I go. Seriously folks, I get cravings too for the sweet and salty but when I stick to my list those things will look like veggies, fruit, nuts and ingredients for cookies I can make at home.

There are some great apps for list making and after that incident I am ready to get one.
