Spicy maple pulled pork!

I kind of knocked it out of the park tonight with dinner so I decided to post the recipe right away for you all to enjoy.

A lot of people who meet me think I’m a vegetarian because I’m so focused on health and I’m usually not wearing make up 😉

The truth is I was vegetarian for most of my twenties. I also suffered from a bunch of different health issues and mega mood swings. When I decided to start incorporating meat back into my diet I felt 100 times better. It was as if someone turned the light on.

The important thing for me is that the meat I am eating be farm raised in a humane way, like our grandparents used to eat. I want the best of the best.

The best is exactly what I got tonight! I bought 3lbs of pork shoulder from a local farm who was at my neighborhood farmers market. I took this recipe and made some modifications.

For dinner tonight I served it in lettuce cups with a side of roasted carnival squash. Tomorrow I plan to serve it for lunch on a bed of lettuce with fresh sliced apples.

This is definitely a meal the whole family will enjoy.

Spicy maple pulled pork:

  • 4 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoons salt
  • 1 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup real Vermont maple syrup (grade B)
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vineger
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, peeled and cut in 4 big slices
  • 3  pounds pork shoulder, cut in 4 chunks


First, start heating up the slow cooker on low and layer the onion on the bottom followed by the layer of pork.

Next, mix the dry ingredients together and then add the vinegar, honey, maple syrup and olive oil. Pour the mixture over the pork and cook for 7 hrs on low

Transfer the meat to a glass dish and shred with a couple of forks.

The only thing better than how this tastes is how incredibly easy it was to prepare.
